Dick Francis is my favourite author. Francis is an ex-jockey, and all his books have a link to the horse riding world. Sometimes it's a strong link, sometimes it just hovers somewhere in the background. The interesting thing about these books is the elegant writing style combined with a thoroughly researched background theme, ranging from glass blowing through accountancy to, of course, horse racing. It may sound fanciful, but he manages to begin almost every book with a sentence that compels you to read the rest of the book.

All my Dick Francis books are published by Pan Books. I like them because of the particularly good cover photography. Over the years, there have been a number of cover photographers. I like the covers of Colin Thomas best.

In the menu on the left you can find the titles of all his books. Clicking them provides some more information, such as the year it was written and the opening sentence (so beware; you might be left with a strong desire to find out how the story unfolds...).
