Day 4

Day 4 was a shopping stroll visiting some of the more exclusive stores in New York. We certainly saw some nice stores. I particularly liked the huge toy store. Toys are gadgets for little children, right? Anyway, I had decided not to bring the camera along for this day. Too bad, the Trump Building (the one everybody means when talking about the Trump Building) was rather photogenic. Anyway, no pictures from this day.

Two highlights of this day:
Trying to see a movie. Finding a theatre was easy. Getting tickets to a halfway decent film wasn't. While discussing options, an independent entrepreneur approached us. He had 4 tickets, and wanted to sell them. For a 50% markup in price. No way, we say, and we only want two. Then we see a couple standing nearby, also discussing what to do. So we approach them, and try to make a deal with our salesman: all 4 tickets for 25% over the listed price. Can't say fairer than that, now can you? Says the guy 'I've been standing in that queue for a long time, I'm not dropping the price.'. OK, then we don't buy. He says he can always return the tickets to the box office. We say, cool, we'll be right behind you. But to save us all some trouble, why don't you take the 25% profit and enjoy the proceeds of a hard nights work? No, it has to be 50%. I wonder if he found somebody else to sell those tickets to.

Highlight number two: going book shopping between 22.00 hours and midnight. And finding that there are quite a few people doing the same thing. And that it is accepted practice to sit on the floor and read a book you don't intend to buy. The place had an atmosphere of college library to it. I did buy some interesting books though.
